General Plumbing Supply has been a leading resource to contractors for top-of-the-line plumbing, heating, HVAC, and industrial supplies for over 100 years. As part of an effort to reduce General Plumbing Supply’s environmental footprint, it worked with Solar Landscape to install 129 kilowatts (kW) of solar on 10,700 square feet of roof-top space across two of its stores over the last three years. Together the systems will offset nearly 100 metric tons of carbon annually – the same amount sequestered by 125 acres of U.S. forests in a year. The 60 kW system on its Green Brook store is expected to produce enough energy to meet 92 percent of its demand while the 69 kW system on its City of Orange store will meet 100 percent of demand. Installing solar on its Orange location tied in with a $50,000 roof replacement.
